Hola foodies! As we are slowly easing in to the “before MCO” phase, I am excited to share with you this place in Kuching, Sarawak that serves fusion Pasta in a peculiar packaging for pasta. Oregano by Affogato is THE place in town to get one of the BEST pasta. Serving from the classic pasta to ones that has their own twist to it. Their packaging is definitely something that grabs attention. Stick around to know exactly what I’m talking about.
Oregano by Affogato
Situated at one of the shoplots at Tabuan Tranquility area, Oregano by Affogato is turning a year this coming June 2022! Despite just opening Oregano, the owner Mizan Zaidi is not a stranger to the F&B business. Affogato which is just right next to Oregano is a cafe that serves coffee, cakes and ice cream owned by Mizan too. You can definitely kill two birds with one stone if you dine here! You can enjoy your pasta then just order desserts from Affogato.
Oregano’s concept is a blend of modern and chic if you ask me. Now, I’m not a professional when it comes to interior designs but I can assure you that this place is super Instagramable!
A Penne for my thoughts
Before we go to the food, I’d love to talk about their packaging. That’s probably the first thing that caught my attention. So I had to ask, where did they get their inspiration from. When it comes to packaging, the situation back then(MCO) made Mizan thought of something that is suitable and convenient for take away options for customers. The packaging for me is surely a big plus! Never knew I’d have my pasta in a Chinese food packaging. Now that you can dine-in, it’s pretty easy to pack it to tapau if you can’t finish it! Without wasting any more time, let’s talk about the food now.
The Extra Saucy Pastas at Oregano Kuching – Masak Lemak Daging Salai Pasta
Bet you never heard of such a twist in Pasta dishes! Masak Lemak Daging Salai dish is no stranger to every Malaysian. Also, I believe this dish is truly Malaysian, because you cannot find this anywhere else except here. The traditional Masak Lemak Daging Salai is usually served with rice, but here, they spice things up a little by serving it with pasta!
This menu was originally their seasonal menu which was made permanent just recently due to high demands! For me, you can taste all the rich flavor in this dish. Never knew I’d one day eat Masak Lemak Daging Salai with pasta! So, if you’re feeling a little adventurous, give this fusion pasta a try.
Oregano’s BEST-SELLER Buttermilk Chicken Pasta
Next, we have their best-seller, the Buttermilk Chicken Pasta! Buttermilk Chicken is like Malaysian’s comfort food. Despite its simplicity, the heavenly taste of the crispy chicken paired with the creamy buttermilk sauce is just uh-ma-zing. This is also another dish that is usually served with rice, but here, you can enjoy it with spaghetti. Love, love, love this one too! It’s not their best-seller for no reason. So, you must try this if you go here.
The Eggs-quisite Salted Egg Pasta at Oregano by Affogato
I’m excited about this one! The Salted Egg pasta here is my favorite. I’ve tried them before, and every time I order them, it never disappoints. So, when I came here again for the food review, I was super duper thrilled for this particular dish. Their Salted Egg pasta here uses real salted egg yolk resulting in really authentic, creamy salted egg flavours. Is it a must try? Most definitely!
You’re the Mac to my cheese – Oregano’s Mac and Cheese
Mac and Cheese is another simple yet comforting dish that is loved by many. Malaysians and their love for cheese! Some people bake their Mac and Cheese, but ever since the existence of this dish, there has been a variety of ways to cook it. Here, they don’t bake it, but they cook it in a pan first then sprinkle cheese on top to later burn it using a cooking torch as seen in the pic above. The Mac and Cheese here is delicious. Its creamy, silky, rich cheese sauce is all perfectly balanced. Just the right amount of everything to make it a perfect Mac and Cheese.
Conclusion
All in all, what we ordered did not disappoint! Their Masak Lemak Daging Salai and Salted Egg Pasta definitely stood out for me. I’m in love with these two dishes. Also, they have other dishes like Prawn Aglio Olio, Nestum Chicken, Beef bolognese and many more. Other than that, don’t forget to also check out Affogato, their dessert cafe just right next door!
