Miri Chinese New Year Bazaar is BACK after 3 YEARS!

Hola Borneo Foodies! Why do I feel like Christmas was just yesterday? Now, Chinese New Year is almost here already!  Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy that somehow time is passing by quickly, but that was crazy fast! Anyway, if you’re Mirian, you know that the Miri Chinese New Year Bazaar is something for all Mirian to be excited about. After waiting 3 long years for it to be back, it’s finally happening! 

A Little Backstory on Miri Chinese New Year Bazaar 

A little insight on the event itself – Miri Chinese New Year Bazaar is organized by the Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) and it has been since the year 2000! After some time, the event got so popular that everyone looks forward to it every year. Tonnes of beautiful, bright lanterns and ornaments are hung along the roadside in Miri for this event. 

This year, there is two Chinese New Year bazaar happening! One is the Gong Xi Bazaar Miri (Miri Old City Centre) which starts on the 14th of January 2023 until 21st of January 2023. While the other is the Times Square Bazaar (Miri Times Square), which started on 11th January 2023. Both of the events begin around 4 PM until 11 PM.

Times Square Bazaar (Miri Times Square Chinese New Year Food Festival)

What can one find at the Chinese New Year Bazaar?

More than 300 Non-Muslim and Muslim stalls selling a wide range of foods, pastries, ornaments, festival cookies, and other items may be found at the Chinese New Year Bazaar!

In terms of Muslim-friendly food, you can find more of these stalls at the Gong Xi Bazaar at the Miri Old Town area. The ones in the Miri Times Square is more targeted to the Non-Muslims. Not saying there aren’t any, but there’s less here.

There are tables and chairs provided in the middle of the stalls for customers, and visitors to enjoy the food immediately. Bear in mind, to be a responsible citizen! Clean up after yourself, and do not leave trash on the table. Trash bin are located nearby, so be a good citizen!
