Not sure you can call yourself a Kuchingite if you don’t know Takeaways Burger Kuching or more well known as the Burger Simpang Tiga. Located nearby the Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, some also call them the Swinburne burger.
Takeaways Burger started small and was only operating from a small stall by the same roadside. The little corner on the end of the shop lot was where this legendary burger started. This was a burger place that served a really simple burger menu, but people would come all the way from Batu 13 even to get their burger.
Now, if you’re familiar with this burger place, as soon as they open, you will see many people already lining up to place their orders. There are some people who would wait more than 45 minutes for the burger.
Today, they have a branch in Kota Samarahan, Campus Hub area where dine-in is available and around 9pm, there will be local talents singing. This branch opens slightly earlier than the street stall. They open at 3pm and closes at 11pm.
What makes Takeaways Burger special?
Although I didn’t get to talk to Harry, the man behind this legendary stall, I got to chat a little with his partner, Yuri. Yuri said that their burger stall was the first ever to use charcoal to grill their burger and patties. I guess that is what makes it super special. However, years after using charcoal, they thought of changing to using burners instead, with the thought of taking better care of the environment. They stopped using charcoal immediately and are now using 12 burners instead. They wanted to achieve and maintain the same taste of the burger when they were still using charcoal.
Yuri then shared that, there’s this one time, they made a total order of 320 burgers simultaneously on the 12 burners, and they were able to deliver perfectly grilled patties! All-hail 12 burners. Now, let’s get to the good part! Let’s jump right in to the food.
Double Lamb Burger from Takeaways Burger
The thing about the burger here is that it’s super simple, but you can adjust it according to your preference. We ordered the Double Lamb Burger. Off! I’m in loveee, the patty is super tender and juicy. Oh my Lambs, if I were to recommend which one you should get from this burger joint, it’s definitely this! Either single or double patty, it’s delicious! But I tell you, ordering one is not enough. My first time trying these burgers were back in 2021, when my friend first introduced me it, I ordered only one single patty burger, and of course NOT ENOUGH! *cries dramatically* This burger gets a 10/10 from me!! You can also add on Egg, more cheese or more pineapple btw.
Beef Cheese Pineapple from Takeaways Burger Kuching
Next, we have the Beef Cheese Pineapple. If you’re not keen of lamb and more of a Beef fan, you can get this one! Also, if you dine-in at their Kota Samarahan branch, you can have it as set that comes with french fries. Usually when we go to burger joints or burger stall, we’d see their sauces or cheese oozing out from the burger, but the burgers from Takeaways Burger is not like that at all. If you just look at it like that, you’d wonder, “Benasik sedap tok?” haaaa, belum cuba belum tauk! Once you get a bite of these babies, you’ll definitely fall in love with it. If you ask me, the Lamb one is still on my mind. So, it depends also! If you’ve tried them before, let me know what you think.
C.E.C – Chicken Egg Chicken
Chicken lovers assemble! Other than lamb and beef, they also have the Chicken burger. Just like the other two, you can have it simply as Chicken burger, or add on egg, cheese or pineapple. The burst of the pineapple taste plus the egg and chicken, was just nice for me! If you can’t take lamb or beef, you should definitely try this.

For dine in at Takeaways Burger, they have options like Super Onion Ring and also Candy Red Onion. The Super Onion Ring was yummy, it was crispy and flavorful! It’s definitely make your finger turn orange too. Whereas for the Candy Red Onion, it was a blast of flavor, it’s sweet and a surprise of sour will hit you a bit later. If you love onion rings, you should give this a try!

Takeaways Burger is definitely called legendary for a reason. Being around for quite some time now, people are still crazy in love with them despite having to wait even more than an hour for it. If that doesn’t say much about how good their burgers are, I don’t know what else to say! I definitely prefer going to their Simpang Tiga branch, by the roadside more, cause it gives you that sentimental feeling and the OG-ness is there.
