Naan and Cheese – a match made in heaven, or at Ceylonese?
Cheese naan may be a staple at Malaysian Mamak restaurants, but a Cheese Naan that can make a show-stopping, absurdly long and epic cheese pull? Now, that is a Cheese Naan worth mentioning! This Cheese Naan can be found at Ceylonese, a restaurant right in the heart of Kuching.
Established in 2006, Ceylonese is a restaurant which specializes in North Indian dishes in Kuching, Sarawak. Did you know that this restaurant use thousands of kilos of premium quality Anchor cheese every month?
This high consumption of cheese goes to show how generous are they to use only premium quality New Zealand cheese used in their dishes. Btw, the New Zealand Anchor cheese is doing a Smile with Cheese contest for cheese lovers! Read until the end to find out more details.
No Malaysian meal is complete without ordering Teh Tarik. The Teh Tarik served here is fantastic, the tea was very fragrant and strong while the milk tea was creamy but not too sweet. The Teh Tarik also had the right amount of foam.
More than a fistful of Cheese per Naan at Ceylonese
Now, onto our main dish, which is the Double Extra Cheese Tarik Naan. The naan here is made by putting in loads of Mozzarella Cheese onto the naan dough. The dough is then enclosed and rolled into a circular shape. The flatbread is then slapped against the sides of tandoor, which is a cylindric clay oven.
Once done, the naan is cut into a few pieces. Now, this is where it gets really cheesy. The restaurant owner did the honor of doing the first cheese pull. As you can see, the height that the cheese pull reached was simply extraordinary. Thus, if you are keen to do an epic cheese pull for your Instagram, be sure to order Double Extra Cheese Tarik Naan when you are at Ceylonese, Kuching!
We also attempted a united cheese pull, where we tried to pull the naan pieces from all sides. The spider web shaped cheese pull simply looked amazing!
The taste of the naan was already delicious on its own. However, the flaky and buttery naan paired with the rich and silky cheese were simply a match made in heaven. Pro tip, you definitely need to eat the Cheese Naan as soon as possible after being served as the cheese and naan may dry out after some time.
Needless to say, we were so happy with the Double Extra Cheese Tarik Naan, as every bite was filled with the hot piping cheese.
A rewarding contest for cheese lovers in Malaysia.
