Hey foodies! Don’t we all love to savour on a plate of some tasty Chinese Dumplings filled to the brims? Those little fluffy pillows usually packed with minced pork and finely chopped cabbage, are not only great for late night suppers but also as an appetizer! There’s this place I highly recommend to Kuchingites called “Blessed Dumplings” which is located at Tabuan Heights, Jalan Song, Kuching, Sarawak.
福气饺子 Blessed Dumplings, Kuching
Blessed Dumplings is one of the best places to have handmade dumplings in Kuching. I could roughly eat at least one whole plate (consisting of 10 pieces) all by myself in just one sitting! This is because, it is really that good! I have yet to encounter a place like this in the city.
Now, what’s great about this place is that they serve a variety of dumplings. From the Classic Pork & Chives, to the Long Cabbage & Pork, Salted Egg with Pork & Chives, Century Egg with Pork & Chives, Corn & Pork, and lastly BBQ Pork with Mozzarella Cheese. That’s a total of 6 different flavours! Truly a great selection of choices, you’ll definitely find a flavour of your liking here.
After selecting your dumpling flavour, you have the option to choose from several cooking methods including having it Pan-Fried, Boiled or Steamed. Their Pan-Fried version happens to be a crowd-pleaser not only because visually the dumplings look appetizing, but that crispy nest-like layer beneath the dumplings is what people like me got drawn into! There’s a special technique that the cook uses to form that unique layer.
During our last trip there, the friendly lady boss suggested that we should try their dumplings cooked in different methods and in all flavours. So, we did! I was lucky enough to witness the process of making this beautiful plate of Pan-Fried Dumplings.
The Making of Pan-Fried Dumplings
Firstly, the cook preheats the non-stick pan and adds in 3 spoonful of oil into it. Next, she arranges the dumplings in a circular manner. After a while, comes the process of creating that nest-like surface whereby she adds a secret mixture into the hot pan. It is crucial to ensure that the mixture covers half way through those dumplings.
Then, she covers the pan with a lid and wait till the mixture is nearly dried up. Once she starts noticing a golden crust forming underneath the dumplings, she turns off the heat. Ta-daa~ Pan-Fried Dumplings ready to be served!
Boiled Dumplings with Mala Sauce
You have the option to have your dumplings with or without their mala sauce. For all you spicy food-lovers, this would be great to have. The spiciness of the mala sauce isn’t too intense, it indeed does gives a kick when biting into those dumplings. Pretty satisfying if you ask me. A spoonful of blended chili will be served on the side upon request if you want some extra heat!
Original Boiled Dumplings
If you wanna keep things simple, their regular boiled dumplings are equally as good as the other two. These juicy & plump dumplings dipped into their blended chili sauce, is very palatable. The dish is garnished with some bits of spring onions to give it that touch of freshness.
Among all the 6 different dumpling flavours, my personal favourites are the Century Egg with Pork & Chives and also the Classic Pork & Chives. Just because I love century eggs and also how I love the classic fillings of dumplings. But, do feel free to try any of them! If you’re interested in pre-ordering either their cooked or frozen dumplings, do WhatsApp them!
