1. One Poke | Kuching

Have you ever heard of Poke Bowls? Originating from Hawaii, a poke consists of diced meat or fish which is usually served over rice, topped with many types of vegetables and flavorful sauces.

They are usually high in lean protein, full of fiber from all the wholegrains and veggies and are thus packed with antioxidants and vitamins. These bowls are not only healthy, but so colorful and delicious, that you definitely won’t mind eating this every day.

A famous restaurant serving poke bowls is Ono Poke, Emporium. A dish that you must try is their Unagi Poke Bowl. Imagine biting on that sweet and umami-packed unagi with all the nutritious ingredients such as shrimp, carrot, pineapple, corn, edamame, wakame and many others.

Firstly, you can choose your meat, such as chicken, salmon, tuna or even tofu. Then, as your base, you can either choose seasoned hikari sushi rice, honey roasted sweet potato or seasoned brown rice. Next, proceed to choose your sauces. So many customization options so you can have a poke bowl that is just right for your taste buds.

Next on our list is Peridot. Peridot is truly a hidden gem in Kuching, if you’re looking for a place to enjoy healthy dishes in a fancy and elegant dining experience, then Peridot is definitely the place to check out. One of their stunning salads is the Roasted Pumpkin and Kale Salad. Not only is this dish packed with nutritious ingredients such as pumpkin, kale, arugula and puy lentils, this dish is also absolutely instagrammable.

Just look at the beautiful presentation! They also have other salad options such as Waldorf Salad, consisting of apples, celery and walnuts in mayo and cream dressing, Greek Salad with feta cheese and of course, the classic must-have Garden Salad.

One of the highlights of Peridot is their Australian/New Zealand inspired menu. Thus, a healthy menu is simply incomplete without a good fruit platter. Another beautifully presented dish is this Peridot’s Grazing Platter. Each platter consists of a selection of freshly cut fruits, vegetables, cheese, house made dips, nuts and dried fruits. This gorgeous platter can be shared between 4-6 people.

Next on our list is one of my favorites, Wonderboom! Located in Green Heights Shopping Mall, Wonderboom offers many fresh and hearty signature rice bowls. Look at this Chimichurri Grilled Chicken Wonderbowl! The vibrant colors and fresh ingredients are simply inviting. They have other interesting rice bowls such as Rocketman, Fish in a Dish and Say Cheese.

For salads, the options include Honey Mustard Grilled Chicken with Avocados Salad, Calamari Rings with Mangoes Salad and Roasted Pumpkin and Quinoa Salad.

Want something sweet, refreshing but healthy? Then try their fruit smoothie bowls! One of the flavors I tried was their Dragon’s Breath. This dragon fruit smoothie was served with blueberries, bananas, strawberries and chia seeds. It was so refreshing and simply a great dessert to rinse your palette.

5. Keeper’s Ground | Kuching

Tucked away in the Spring Shopping Mall, Keeper’s Ground is another cafe with many options of healthy food and dishes in Kuching. This beautiful dish right here is their Beetroot, Cashew & Ricotta Salad.

Enjoy this nutritious mix of beetroot slices, rocket and green corals, drizzled in balsamic vinegar dressing. The different textures and crunch when biting onto these veggies with their delicious dressing are so so satisfying.

Other salad options include Greek Green Salad, Potato, Quinoa and Couscous with Greens. Not forgetting the Keeper’s Signature which is a mix of broccoli, cabbage tomatoes, walnuts, ricotta cheese, quinoa and sweet chili roasted potatoes with pomegranate dressing.

Craving for Nasi Goreng but perhaps with a healthy twist? Then try their Multi Grain Fried Rice. Red rice, jasmine rice and quinoa are stir fried with chicken vegetables. The dish is topped with a Sunny Fried Egg because a Nasi Goreng isn’t a Nasi Goreng without the Classic Telur Mata.
