1. RG Ais Krim Gula Apong

Established in 2006, R.G. Ais Krim Gula Apong was the 1st to sell this dessert in Malaysia! In the afternoon, the shop is operated by Richard, who opened it nearly 2 decades ago. At night, however, it is his son, Gerald, who takes over the job. Hence R.G. (Richard and Gerald) in the shop’s name!

RG Ais Krim Gula Apong often rotates its ice cream flavours daily (I have tried pandan, chocolate and vanilla!) so be sure to try them all and with different toppings!

They also have a brand-new item that is currently not in the menu which is their Boba Tea with Ice Cream Gula Apong!

2. IG Gula Apong

Founded in June 2019, it is a new stall in the ice cream gula apong scene! IG Gula Apong is located at a bus stop right in front of Kuching Waterfront, no wonder it has attracted a lot of customers in a short amount time!

This stall highlights its Gula Apong Bubble Milk Tea which you can choose between Gula Apong Milk Tea or Chocolate Milk Tea, and you can have it with or without ice cream!

You can also have normal Sundae Gula Apong Ice Cream with toppings of your liking!

3. DP Ice Cream Gula Apong

Next, we have DP Ice Cream Gula Apong! Compared to most of the other shop, I would say that DP Ice Cream Gula Apong offers ice cream gula apong that is a little less sweet, which would suits some people who can’t handle too much sugar.

It has recently moved from Padungan to Kuching Riverside, but still offers the same great taste since 2015! The portion for a large bowl is very generous!

4. Sunny Hill Ice Cream

Opened in 1963, Sunny Hill Ice Cream is truly a local favourite with its nostalgic canteen-style parlour. It is the oldest ice cream joint in Kuching!

Along the years, they have perfected their combination of gula apong with its silky smooth and soft textured ice cream. The soft ice cream is what makes it unique compared to the other stalls!

The creaminess of the ice cream paired with roasted peanuts for me is absolutely spot on! An OG dessert for all Kuchingites!

5. Swee Kang Ais Kacang

Swee Kang is well-known in Kuching for selling desserts, mainly for its Ice Kacang. However, they also offer their own Ice Cream Gula Apong too!

The ice cream has a creamy texture to it that is drenched in a sweet gula apong which is not too overpowering. So make sure to try it the next time you’re at Swee Kang!
